In 1974, John Harbert with Harbert-Equitable began work on Riverchase, his planned self-contained community on two tracts of land. This plan included a community that works with the natural landscape and beauty. Though this vision never came to be, Riverchase became an early annex into the city of Hoover in 1979. The neighborhood has since become one of the most established and popular neighborhoods in Hoover. Riverchase is still known for its natural beauty filled with old growth trees and intersects of the Cahaba River.

The architecture is varied from decade to decade and with construction material, but the homes are largely built in a classic American style that remains timeless. The neighborhood is zoned for the Hoover School system. Students attend Riverchase Elementary School. Hoover is a top-rated school system with both high schools ranking in the top 20 high schools in Alabama according to the US News. The school competes in Class 7A in the AHSAA with many sports for students to choose from including football, baseball, softball, basketball, track & field, lacrosse, swimming, soccer, and volleyball. The school also has academic programs including IB, AP, clubs, and academic teams.
What to do in the Area
There are many public parks a short drive from Riverchase. Veterans Park has a 5K cross country trail, playgrounds, beach volleyball courts, pavilions, a pond for fishing, and veteran’s memorial. The park’s cross country trail is frequently used for competitive cross country races. Located minutes down the road, Aldridge Gardens was the former home of a local horticulturist and his wife. It’s a popular venue for events and school trips. Oak Mountain Park is a 20-minute drive and one of the most popular destinations in the Birmingham Metro area for outdoor activities featuring a public beach, fishing, nature walks, bike trails, BMX course, watersports, boating, and more.
